Choosing a credit card is a process that can seem quite overwhelming. Obviously you’re tying yourself to a financial institution for the foreseeable future; you’ll have to pay them for your credit line, and if you make the wrong choice you might end up with a credit card you can ill afford.

So what should you consider when you’re looking for the right credit card for you?

Have a bit of a think and consider what you need your credit card for. If you plan to use a credit card specifically in order to build credit, then you don’t need to worry too much about the credit line available or the interest rate. You’ll be spending small amounts and repaying them in full as soon as the bill comes in, avoiding interest charges and building excellent credit in the process.

If you intend to keep your credit card for emergency use only, you’ll find that interest rates are a lot more important. You may end up spending a large sum at a time, at which stage repaying the full amount is impossible and you will be paying interest on your expenditures. The best way to ensure you keep your card for emergency use is to put it somewhere you will not lose it. Don’t keep it in your wallet; this will only invite spending.

For planned larger expenses, you’ll need to be very careful. Obviously you’ll want the lowest interest rate available, but you also need to make sure the credit limit meets your needs. This will require some careful balancing, so remember to take your time and not be tempted to make any rash decisions. You could be saving thousands by the simple expedient of taking care with your decision and not allowing yourself to be rushed.

If you have a long history with a local bank, you should definitely check out their deals. As a valued customer they may be able to offer you a card the general public is unable to obtain. It is always worth checking as this, too, could save you a lot of money over the life of the card. Simply contact your relationship manager or walk into your branch and find out what could be available.

Taking a little bit of extra time choosing a credit card seems like a fiddly business. That said, that little bit of time could pay dividends over the long run, and adjusting your criteria based on what you plan to use the card for is a very good idea allowing you to narrow your search considerably.

Well I am back in Australia now… COLD Australia, the tropical weather of the holidays were too kind to me – making it so much harder to adjust to the cold weather and non-holiday routine of being back at home! I was lucky enough to find cheap hotels and also cheap flights but unfortunately there’s not much to overcome the post holiday blues! (other than planning the next holiday!) which is a pretty good idea.

Holidays are all well and good but making sure I am able to take them also means making sure I am fit and healthy and have ample funds. I really should look more into insurance, even income protection and life insurance.

When you travel, a travel watch can help you keep time, can help you stay on track, and can even be an important accessory. While there are many travel watches on the market today, you can help narrow down your watch choices if you ask yourself a few questions:

1) Why am I traveling? Someone who is traveling for business will want a very different watch than someone who is taking a snorkeling trip. If you are traveling for business, you will need a precise watch that also creates the exact impression you need to make. If you are traveling for sport, you need a watch that can keep up with you – such as the great line of Nautica watches. If you are taking a diving vacation, choose a watch that can stand the water pressure of your dive.

2) Where am I traveling? Where you travel can be just as important as why you travel. In some countries and in some communities, it is unwise to flash around an expensive watch. In other countries, you may not get good service unless you are wearing an attractive watch. Figure out the culture and dangers of your destination.

3) What will my travel needs be? Do you need a watch you can snorkel with or a watch that features a compass because you will be away from civilization for a while? Do you need a watch that is very lightweight because you will be carrying a heavy pack? Do you need a luminous watch because you will be stuck in dim conference rooms? Try to list the situations you are likely to find yourself in and decide which watch gadgets it might be nice to have.

4) What style do I want? Is style even important to me? If you are traveling for business or need to make an impression, your travel watch will double as an accessory, especially since you may not have the luggage space to pack many other accessories. Stylish Invicta watches are a great example of watches that look great and are precise.

5) How much precision do you need? It’s important to choose a precision watch if you want to avoid missing planes or trip features. If you are taking part in sports and need an accurate stopwatch, your watch may need an even higher level of accuracy. As well, look for automatic watches that do not need to be wound up – with time changes and the hectic pace of travel, it’s far too easy to forget to wind up your watch at the same time each day. Some of the most modern watches automatically synchronize time so that you do not even always have to worry about re-setting your watch at your destination.
